Author Topic: I fixed a computer!  (Read 1214 times)

Bisjac blog time.

I been living mobile all year so i haven't had my lovey desktop ; ; and by now its stuff anyways. So i grabbed myself this Vaio from best buy in Feb10.
Back in Jan, loving microsoft did some kind of little w7 update, that caused my bios to update itself. well Sony don't like drivers they themselves don't pick for their hardware. so the hard-drive fan started running really really hard and loud, because the Sony diagnostics software figured the comp was hot or something.

Couldn't roll back, couldn't reinstall the old drivers. So i reformatted using my own w7 disk. (i didn't pay the 100 bucks for the best buy recovery disk)
well it appears Sony especially hates that, as now nothing worked right.
manually downloaded every little millionth driver off the sony support page for this model. caught up now on the sony software they require me to use. other things working fine again, but of course back to the fan and fps problem.
i now have a comp overheating and shutting down, and i cant game anything better then 20fps

solution; opened it all up and unplugged the harddrive fan lol. ironically the only heat i was getting was caused by the fan itself running so hard.
this made the sony software stfu about the fan, and allowed my comp to run at its gaming specs again.

there is a MS;IT degree for ya. just unplug it.

This. But not only because of this experience;

Every sony product requires everything special for it that is insanely over priced. Cameras require a special sd card. Tvs require special cables. Psp requires handicapped ass UMDs. Etcetc.

its a monster of a good gaming comp, for a laptop.

but yeah i will never buy sony again, cant use any other software. even the nvidia drivers are outdated. they work good, but there are more current ones i could use and the comp wont run good with.

That would be my dad's moral. He hates Best Buy now. He threatened to disown me if I bought anything from there.

Because it's all Best Buy's fault.

Big Bad Best Buy!

He lost $100 dollars on a TV w/ price match and crap. They gave him $22.28 or something liek that lol

That's his own damn fault for being a dumbass and not looking at the price tag.

I laughed at the solution XD My mom just got a new computer yesterday because her old one from 2005 was getting too slow for her work. When she started it up for the first time, she didn't watch the screen and so she didn't see that the CPU was overheating. So she tried booting it up again, and it shut down. This time she watched it and saw the message that the CPU was overheating. So she got my dad to re-apply the thermal paste, nothing. Then they had to replace the cooling fan's pins, and that fixed it. But this time, when they started it up, it had half gray and half black screen. Turns out that the monitor cables came loose, so they fixed those, and now it works c:

Back OT: I'll remember to never buy from Sony...
