Author Topic: I need proof blockland is safe to host.  (Read 1471 times)

My mum doesn't believe that Blockland is safe to port forward, for one she barely knows what port forwarding is, she believes that when I do this it will take off the security of our internet and people will be able to hack us through Blockland, I need proof that Blockland is safe to use and does not breech our internet, why is my mum so stubborn -.-.

There are >2000 Counter Strike servers up daily, most of them required port fowarding.

Port fowarding is only for routers, luckily I have fiber optic and I don't need port fowarding.

But it's true, it gives some small security leaks. But there are 200 servers on Blockland for the love of logic.

Thanks LeetZero I really needed the proof coming from someone with experience, hopefully she will take it

More proof.

When I host with port fowarding (which I have been doing for ~3 years), nothing happens to me. Nothing. No viruses, nothing. Also, think about everyone else. Nothing happens to them. And Kalphiter's dedicated hosting doesn't get a virus.

You know that it is safe because you've been on my servers...

Port forwarding is safe. Just tell your mom to look it up or look it up yourself.

Just don't host a dedicated server longer than 3 days on a moderately good PC.

Cause that's why I'm not typing on my own PC.

When you port forward for Blockland, only information for Blockland is allowed through the ports. And we all know that Blockland isn't hackable itself. Soo... You'll be fine.

Port forwarding doesn't leave a gaping hole in your internet for people to look through and stick their grubby little internet hands into. It's like a semi-permeable hole created by you. c:

If you need proof search the forums and you'll find out nobody has ever got hacked through Blockland.

Here is another way to look at it:

Port forwarding allows only 1 port# though your router
That port goes only to 1 PC

if the PC is turned off or asleep, its the same as no port forwarding (nothing there to receive the data)
if the PC is on, and blockland is not running, its also the same (blockland is required receive the data)
if the PC is on, and blockland IS running, then its the only thing to receive the data.  then look at what everyone else said.  blockland is  hard to hack.

Hosting servers on Blockland is safe. Consider this:

Hundreds of people host servers daily. They host for countless hours and don't get anything harmful. If it was a big of a threat, do you think this many people would host?

I have hosted for a long time, and I've had many different people join my server, INCLUDING HACKERS. I haven't gotten a single virus from Blockland ever since I started hosting.

The Blockland port is close when Blockland is closed.
The Blockland port is open when Blockland is open, but can only be accessed by Blockland connections.

hundreds of people host daily.  :cookieMonster:

blockland does not support access beyond your blockland folder, so don't worry about that, and people can only do what the game lets them.
