So, good games for 2 or more players, online/same console/LAN. By this I mean fair, balanced, even etc. Where unfair advantages cannot be abused.

---
I vote for Super Smash Brothers Melee and Brawl as the best. Every character is perfectly balanced(low speed-high power, then vice versa). There are no un-lockable items you need to spend hours playing to get that completely messes up the balance of play. And especially no unlock able character decorations. You can pick levels easily and each player gets the same percentage of damage/advantages from it, or whether you get affected at all. And Brawl has lag-free online multiplayer too.

You could also argue about HL2 Deathmatch being balanced, seeing how the weapons are based around finding them around the map, but the design in general is pretty obsolete. Still, the levels can be really cool (dm_runoff ftw).

Team Fortress 2 used to be cool. But the new item and hat system changes have completely ruined the gameplay. New weapon releases cause everyone to try and get them, which then sets a complete dominance on the new item owners until everyone either gets that item or learns how to take advantage over its downside. The Amputator is a good example. The taunt gives your team mates 75 health from a distance, and there is no limit on how many times you can taunt. Oh, and it has no downsides. Period.

The Left4Dead versus mode is decent, but it got even more unbalanced for its sequel. Special infected tactics can overtake even the best of Survivors, such as Spitting at a downed player.

So, what do you think? What multiplayer game is the most balanced?

Super Smash Brothers Melee and Brawl perfectly balanced
Thats a joke, right?

Meta Knight. I know that and I don't even have the game.

Why do you say that? I've seen a chart comparing perk ratios, and they are equal. Of course, it may seem unfair at times if the other player is more experienced, but that's true for everything. It's just that there are no unbalancing modifications that makes me say that about the SSB series.

And Brawl has lag-free online multiplayer too.
And by lag-free you mean the minimum ping is 500.  Also TF2 is really balanced.  I don't see why you say it's so unbalanced.

It really shows when a popular new weapon comes out. It's hard to get used to countering with the new weapon's flaws, so the first recipients get an enormous killing spree until my team understands how to take advantage of it's disadvantage.

And it's the grubbing for hats that gets to me. Also, I find that SSBB is less laggy then TF2 or HL2 Deathmatch. Maybe it's just me, but I simply find the server connection on those two annoying. After all, SSBB has a smaller player limit and simpler moves.

There's no such thing as a "balanced game".

Even if you don't give option to any of the teams to get weapons, skill will always count foward. Teams being random, players on a team can even have a lot of skilled members while the other team does not even have one skilled member.

In conclusion, the skill defines the game and the player, not the weapons (or classes).

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood is pretty balanced.

Everyone has the same chances of killing somebody, and only the really high levels can use the Hidden Pistol.

Counter Strike, no awp servers.

Sonic.

While taunting you're a big blinking target. You can't move or anything. And it doesn't heal the Medic himself, last I checked.

This is the whole point of Versus; to see how long it takes for a team to lose. I myself don't even enjoy it unless there's a full eight people with mics that are fun to play with.
Besides, Campaign is still fun (with four people with mics :\).
