I am looking for the bored developers of the world to help me with a project I have in mind. I say in advance that I will not be paying anyone anything, so if you are looking for money, sorry, I don't have any.

I enjoy coding, so I will be helping code this project. However, this being the first game I've developed(I have edited others, but I suppose they don't count), I don't know where to begin. I suppose I should list what I can do, then what I certainly need help with.

I am a php coder at heart, but that will be of little use here. I have dabbled in java, I have made entire game mods in Torque, and I have recently started looking into Ogre. I can't seem to get any of the C languages to work for me. I enjoy the Lua used for ArcEmu.

I certainly need desperatly a consultant, and graphics guys. I can't make good looking graphics if my life depended on it.

Really, I suck at convincing people to listen to me. I can start with the story of this, hmm?

Of course to make games, you have to play them. I have played Minecraft, Rigs of Rods, Blockland, Clonk, Feral-Heart, Stranded 2, BF2(series), WoW(I also run an ArcEmu server, and script things for it), to name a few that create this idea.

What I want to do, is pretty much shove all these games in a blender, and pour out a really great game. This game will probably be java based, but if you know a better alternative to do what I want, I'd be happy to look into it.

It will be a kind of MMO-sandbox-rpg-FFA-civilization-shooter blend. It's gunna be a hell of a mess to make, but in a few years when it's done and presentsble, it will be awesome. It will be as sandbox as Minecraft, as player made as Minecraft, Blockland, and Clonk, as fun as all the above games.

Players will be able to plant, grow, cut down, and harvest from trees, Dig into the ground and rock, collecting the dirt and other materials. They willl be able to create settlements in the ever expanding(based of player number, I suppose) untamed land. THey will be able to take the matrials they collect to build many, many things. Ships to go to sea, houses to live in, walls, weapons, stationary weapons. It will be more modern than other games I've seen do this type of thing. Such as being able to build a garage, and feed that garage a ton of metal(it will make the screws itself, saves time :)), a little leather for the seats, and you have a jeep.

More details can be shared when you sign on to this project. I pray I get some exprienced devs to help make a dream game reality.

I will be posting this on many forums. List of other places so far: Here.GameJolt http://gamejolt.com/community/forums/topics/volunteer-developers-wanted/797/#post-12493

Note: I forgot to mention, will be 3d if possible. 2d or 2.5d will not be able to render the many things that I want to do.

I would help. But i don't know much art or coding. And I'm working on a game myself. Good luck with the game though!

Working on a climbing game. Sorry.

I could help with some music, but not now, maybe after easter.

What sort of graphics would you be needing?
I can draw some things.
Oh but animals and real-looking people, I can't.
But I can draw trees perfect.

Somehow your post just gave me a fantastic idea for an algorithm for 2D side view terrain generation and destruction, without using blocks like minecraft does.

I want some good DMM.
awwwwww yeeeeeee

This sounds like a horribly underdeveloped idea that is essentially Minecraft with a few minor features added on. The bolded sentence is particularly troubling to me.

I am sure it would bother you. It is an under-developed speech written on short time and coffee. I am not really trying to make a minecraft with bf2 model, or otherwise truly blend these games. What I mean by that is that my game will share features and some characteristics of these games. For instance, my game will be a sandbox and free as minecraft(being able to dig underground, build tall towers), while (maybe, still skeptical) vehicles and such of BF2, and building castles and such like clonk.

I agree with Otis.

You've given me a great idea for my own project though. :)
Basically what I'm thinking of doing is generating a 2D grid, sampling adjacent grid spaces and effectively doing some anti-aliasing with lines. The lines would then be used for Line vs X collisions, along with possibly using points of the lines for occlusion and lighting. Occluded spaces would be blackened out and unlit spaces would be darkened. It seems complex when I write it out like this, and it probably is, however I've messed with pretty much everything I said here minus the grid generation. Getting the math right for anti-aliasing the grid spaces so it looks somewhat natural is going to be a little bit difficult though.

You respond to the guy saying what you said sucks.
But not to the one trying to help you.

You're looking in the wrong place for developers, Blockland doesn't have many.

Additionally, you're not going to make a game by assimilating a team of unpaid developers, you'd have better luck making your own indie game. Either that, or make a mod or a source mod with a few guys to exhibit your work as a portfolio to attract developers. No one is going to flock to the guy that is saying "Hey guys I have no experience so work for me for no money", because anyone can be an "ideas guy".

:cookie: :D Sorry, 4 forums, and i tend to think long term. Shouldn't Need any graphics just yet, but I'd be happy to have you when we start.

I would do an indie, but I suck graphically and dont know where to start. Also, It's always a good idea to ask, there are people in the world with nothing better to do whod love the job. And then there are people like you, who just shoot us budding developers down so you never have competition :)

Footnote: Also, that guy with the portfolio who attracts devs started out like me. without that portfolio.

I asked you what you would need.
I wouldn't want to plan on helping you, to find out you need something I can't make.
