Author Topic: What is the biggest element in a scary game?  (Read 1419 times)

for me it's not explicitly helplessness, it is actually the act of being devoid of weaponry

as long as i have some sort of hurty killy thingy on the right side of my screen i can literally go through entire games without being scared at all

(until of course jump scares)
Take a soldier's gun, and he's just an interactive target.

THOSE MOTHERloving BOO MOMENTS

cauz it could like be looking like a good game in a happy neighborhood and you have friends and family and all of a sudden boom

those moments and stuff
and

creepy maps like gm_scream on gmod

I'd definitely call Minecraft a survival horror game. It has a cold atmosfear, with earie cave noises, monster noises while you can't even see them, and worst of all THE loving JUMPY MOMENTS. Seriously, I go into a cave, it's dark, I hear a lot of water, and suddenly CREEPER BEHIND ME.

I usually survive, it's just the moment I see them.

Creepers scare me to death in the dark.
And zombies, and blobs, and spiders, and... whatever else there is

For me the biggest element is probably actually being scary in general.
Things can be scary without all this general classification you've got going here

I would play scary games, but I know that I would be creeped out and then never touch the game again.

I absolutely love the atmosphere in Stalker Call of Pripyat
Even though I generally don't find it very scary(my opinion, a friend of mine is scared stuffless most of the time playing it), it's pretty creepy at times and just awesome.
