I highly doubt you had to pay $300 for the phone with a contract. They practically give away smartphone if you buy an expensive enough data plan.

Semi true. My phone was like 199 after contact extension. But, my iPhone 3GS was 600.

Well, iPhones are overpriced as hell.
My phone costed me about ~$250 with case and screen protector.

My dad got my Droid2 for free. :S
But the expensive phone plan is too expensive so I just use it as a "iTouch".
