On the second day of our journey, we had picked up a man who was somehow going down to the citadel. "So, there really is an entire world above ours?" I asked him. He responded yes, and hasn't spoken since. All of a sudden, he added, "These supplies can't make the climb up the mangled elevator shaft. You might have to ditch them." We all turned around, and looked at him. Then Captain MacGregor spoke out, and said, alright people, turn these leif fruit sacks into backpacks, then fill them up with necessary supplies. We will send this caravan back for all who cannot make the climb or want to stay in The Citadel once we get to the shaft. Taylor, got some rope?" Taylor nodded yes, and we pushed on.

The large steel shaft that loomed above was terrifying. I flicked my helmet flashlight on, and I couldn't see the top. "We climb this?" I ask Bartleby, and he nods. I begin scanning for a foothold in the mangled steel, and I see one just above my head. "One of you, hoist me up!" I said, and almost instantly I was lifted off my feet. I put my foot on the four inches of protruding metal, with the leif fruit sack on my back, I begin the climb.

I couldn't tell what was worse, being captive in the citadel or dying on the surface. As my father told me that a wise man once said, "He who sacrifices freedom for security deserves neither." What was his name again... Benjamin... Benjamin... That's all I can remember.

The climb seems to go on forever and I'm growing tired but at least I'm supplied with proper provisions now. It's been a long time since I've had a decent meal.

I looked below. We were so high up, that I couldn't see the ground anymore. I shook it off. I couldn't look down anymore, it creeped me out. The climb was going along well, I think I could see the ceiling of the cavern in the far distance. Maybe 300 more feet? The metal wasn't as stable up here, and everything was creaking and moving as I grabbed the rods and shards of metal to climb. We had climbed about another 20 feet when I grabbed onto a rusty metal pole - and it creaked, and snapped. I fell back first, and I was caught by Captain MacGregor about 5 feet below. "Woah there, mind your step." He said, and then I grabbed a piece of metal jutting out of the shaft and resumed climbing. About another 100 feet of climbing, and I heard a snap, and screaming. Someone must have fallen. But now I could see the ledge at the top...

Once we all finished climbing, I was on the ledge telling everyone how to make a "torch" I was helping those who couldn't quite get it. "Amazing, it creates light without electricity." somebody said. I heard a scream. "MY HANNND!" somebody yelled. They fell backwards down off the ledge, but I grabbed them. I assesed their burns, and I wrapped it.

It was so hot in the Iron-Plated bus that I drove, I was drenched in sweat. There were countless amounts of people using the bus service today, and I have to drive them about an hour away from Chicago to some other city. We had to pass through southern Chicago - the most mangled, irradiated, polluted, area in Illinois and the area surrounding it. There are hundreds of bandits that reside there, hence my steel plated bus. I could see the brownish clouds that settle in southern Chicago from here, and already I have heard several pings of bullets failing to pierce the 6 inches of iron. There were metal bridges spanning across the buildings in which the people lived, and I wouldn't blame them for not wanting to touch the Southern Chicagoan ground. I shifted the bus into high gear as I entered southern chicago, and I flipped the windshield shutters down.

Gah. Xavier hated going out on patrols, but it was better slacking off at base with the idiots of officers in the IP. The Peacekeepers basically just patrolled around and shot anyone who was doing something considered illegal. The IP had set up refuge centers in warehouses with the laws posted. They were allied with the CoM, but under stress, due to tension over oil wells for operating flying machines. The IP had claimed seventeen Panther attack helicopters and three Chariot transports, but had no petroleum. That led to some arguing between the president of the Peacekeepers and the leader of CoM. It hadn't resorted to violence yet, but had come close many times.

Suddenly, Xavier heard voices. From the back of the lead truck, he waved over the driver to a small cavern opening. "Zeta and Cisco, on me. Goggles on." The infantryman slid down his night vision goggles, being followed by the six men from Zeta unit, and the seven from Cisco. They strolled into the tunnel, and saw a sign. 'THE CITADEL.' "The Citadel, eh? Command was looking for this... Reyes, place a transponder on the back of the sign. Then stay here with Koyutz and Smith, make sure nobody follows us. Rest of you, let's find whoever those voices came from." The military squad moved forth into the entrance of the Citadel, soon to come across a group of travelers..

We finally found ourselves on a short stretch of tunnel that lead to a large metal door, sun peering through the small crevices.

MacGregor walked up to the door and fiddled with the handle but found no luck in opening it. He stared at the lock for it was a type he had never seen.

I push him aside and I get to work slowly unlocking its secrets, listening for the small clicks. Finally the lock springs and the door opens. "How did you-" MacGregor begins to ask. I quickly interrupt him, "Uh... Beginners luck?"

We stepped outside and let our eyes adjust to the light. The others marveled at the brilliant light that covered the sky and were oblivious to the guns being pointed at us by another group of people.

After dropping off the passengers, I continued going south for about 20 miles. There was a steep slope in the road, and I found myself coasting down, and then I began  to slow down for the checkpoint. Guards trained their guns on me, as I showed them my RNE ID. The gate opened, and I was let through into the large, steel underground base.

As I sit here in a bar I casually ask the Bartender to give me a shot of malt whiskey, he walks up to me and grunts putting down a glass with a few sips of whiskey. I took the bottle and began to run out of the bar until I got a far enough distance to drink it without trouble.
