I think you hear just as good with 1 whole year pointed, as 2 halves of ears pointed toward prey. And when you do that, you are looking sideways and can't see where you are going, so it doesn't help at all.
(They're holes, they can't point. A eagle would have to fly with its head completely SIDEWAYS to hunt via ear.)
