I'm almost positive there was an old thread about someone getting hit by a truck with a poorly shopped image of a stick figure getting rammed by a semi. Various other people made their own versions, and eventually any that did not have a pine tree like the original image were considered fake.
That or I just imagined the entire thing. Damned if I know.

At least, that's how I remember it starting. I've never seen the pine tree joke until after that.
