What level of restriction do you think the US and other governments should impose on civilians purchasing and owning guns?

I personally think civilians should only be allowed to own pistols and semi-automatic rifles because there would be no other practical legal use for automatic weapons except to protect from foreign invaders in times of invasion, when all affected citizens should be allowed to bear any kind of firearm necessary for defense of themselves and the country. I'm also pretty sure this is a major reason why the 2nd Amendment is in the Constitution.

Also I think civilians should get licenses from training to own firearms, I'm pretty sure this is true already though.

Offical statement of the amendment I guess:

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State,the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

I'm sure it most likely means all people, not exactly sure if it only means people in the militia though.

No guns should be handed to civilians outside a gun range IMO.

If they are allowed to be owned, it should be illegal to have them in your possession.

I personally don't see myself ever needing a gun of any kind and can't think of many reasons why anyone would.
