I'm saying that we don't need to give every kid a gun (real or fake) to teach gun saftey.

You're a loving idiot.

You just ignored the whole loving point of what I meant.

I'm not saying children are GIVEN guns, they're just taught GUN SAFETY to avoid gun-related accidents.
That'd be incredibly boring and hard to pull off.

It's been argued that it wouldn't be safe letting guns near children, but I find this argument stupid. The whole thing would be teaching safety. And how many children would want to learn how to properly use guns?
Also, this chunk of text is useless and misleading.

I probably should have read the whole topic before I posted. But the first post also shouldn't mislead me about your opinion.

I think you should have to take a required class out of school.

*facepalm* So? It would be a LOT less boring than math and social studies! And I see no reason for it being hard to pull off. The teacher would have a gun loaded with blanks, but not the students.

That'd be incredibly boring and hard to pull off.
Boring, yeah probably, but it's gun safety, not firearm-fun-time. What the forget do you think school is, anyway? As for hard to do, no, not really.

It's much harder to take down a child who knows how to handle guns than a child who knows nothing.

Teach children to murder safely!

Ever noticed children have been having love at earlier ages because most schools teach them at an early age?

So what, school shootings are going to start at earlier ages now?

WHY IS THERE NOT A SIMPLE NO IN THE POLL?

God damn, you're just absolutely loving handicapped.
Teach children to murder safely!
So teaching kids fire safety teaches them how to be arsonists? Do you even loving think before you say stupid stuff?

The main question I have about this is how it's still relevant, I mean do modern adults come into contact with guns enough for this to be useful?

They shouldn't be teaching gun safety in schools, because Minors shouldn't even HAVE guns, and if they do they probably already had lessons.

In my elementary school we had a cop come in and give a short presentation on gun safety. There were probably some worksheets and coloring book pages with McGruff the Crime Dog. They talked about keeping guns locked up and not playing with them. I'm not sure what you guys mean by should gun safety being taught, while I think that a one day presentation like I had when I was in school is a good idea, I don't think you should spend more than one or two days on it. They could roll it into a "safety week," where Monday is guns, Tuesday is fires, Wednesday is drugs, Thursday is strangers, etc...

Gun safety is a good thing to know. Many people are killed by them or others not using a gun properly. In my honest opinion, schools should teach minors gun safety.

It's been argued that it wouldn't be safe letting guns near children, but I find this argument stupid. The whole thing would be teaching safety. And how many children would want to learn how to properly use guns?

Lots. Many children think guns is a fascinating topic, and no doubt would like to be educated about guns.

So what is your opinion on schools teaching gun safety? Please explain your vote in the poll in this thread.
You shouldn't let kids near guns unsupervised, and when they are supervised there shouldn't be an issue because an adult should be keeping them from doing anything stupid. Gun safety is fine, gun operation is absolutely unneeded. You shouldn't tell kids "Oh hey, so you should never use a gun without an adult, but if you do, this is where the safety is, this is how you load it, this is how you fire it, always point it down range and never at another person, wear proper ear and eye protection..."  You're encouraging even more accidents because they think they know what they're doing, and some of them might not be able to figure out how to turn off the safety. You should just tell them "Never play with guns and if you find a gun lying around you should tell an adult."

The poll doesn't make much sense to me because schools are already teaching gun safety.
