Author Topic: EVE Online - That Game where you ... look at stuff?  (Read 554 times)

I've always tried to get into EVE Online because it always looks so inciting but I've never been able to get into it. Just recently, they had a summer thing, where everyone gets to re-activate their accounts. I've done that and am basically taking care of my planets and watching my skills train passively while not doing anything.

If you're an EVE Online junkie, I'd love to hear what keeps you playing because EVE does look really cool but it's just so.. boring.

Also, because I can, I took the liberty of richarding around with EVE's API system. You can play with my account using my EVE Dashboard. It's still really, really infantile and it's the first time I've played around with AJAX so keep in mind it's just not that great.

For a while I did a lot of mining and lowsec ratting with LegoEggo.
After that we headed to nullsec and set up camp, where I trained nearly all the skills I needed for PvP in my harbinger. I did some PvP, then nullsec mining and whatnot. I don't play anymore though. My sub ran out a few months ago and I really don't have much time for EvE anymore. I probably won't re-activate it until around September, if then.

I'd say one of the most important things you need to do in EvE is get into a nice, friendly, active corp who aren't very uptight about things. It really helps a lot. PvP is also a very fun thing to do. When you're in a fight with someone and it comes close - especially your first few times - you can damn near have a heart attack. It's funny how exhilarating a game can be when you know everything is on the line.

Also it might help to set some long term and short term goals and work towards them by mining or whatever while waiting for skills and such.
Try and make some friends to mine with. I've actually had a lot of fun with large groups of people while mining for hours. Just chatting the entire time. A lot of the time the groups were made up of people from multiple other corps.

Eve is an extremely boring game if you're a carebear (someone who is too afraid to venture into nullsec).

I recommend you find a corp that is into nullsec exploring/waring/ratting/worming. It's a hell of alot of fun. Me and a few mates joined one and made a good 600m between us on our first complex venture.

My corporation is a Bloodline Corp (Aliastra). I basically float around Dodixie taking care of my planets.

If you trained for a raven, you could start solo ratting in nullsec. I guarantee it'd be more fun, and you'd make more isk.

Had a big fight against our war targets yesterday. 8 (them) versus 4 (us). We got 10 kills and 1 loss. Most epic fight ive had.
