Like I said, use an OS that contains absolutely no proprietary elements.
That's a true GNU/Linux user's distribution.
That's not what I was replying to. I was confused at the fact that you said Gentoo was a beginner's distro.
Do you have a parent or friend who can set up an OS like Windows easily but isn't that computer literate? Get them to install Ubuntu and they'll probably think it's easy. Then, tell them to install Gentoo and they'll either a) ragequit or b) forget something up.
