Religion has benefited science before

see: Gregor Johann Mendel
A religious person who is a scientist =/= religion benefiting science

nice try. I laughed when I saw your best example was from the 1800's.

I would be bored being an existentialist. I want to at least feel like I had some higher value as an individual if God did or did not exist according to Christianity. This may seem weak-minded or pitiful to most, but I don't want to live life without reason from a higher entity. This reason alone is why I am not atheist/agnostic nor will ever be.
I'll save you the trouble of wasting your life believing this and tell you there is no reason for your, or my, or anyone else's existence. You will come to realize this eventually, it's inevitable. Rather then hoping you have some divine purpose granted to you by some space wizard, give your life its own purpose. Aspire to be.

Are you really trying to claim that religion is responsible for televisions, computers and medicine?
No, were just the smartest mammel on EARTH. Does that tell you anything? Our brain is the most complex thing in this galaxy. No computer ON EARTH could ever process, or remember as much stuff, as our brain can.

The brain is actually unnecessarily complex because it takes up so much energy. Actually there is only like a very small chance that our society can exist how it is without falling apart into entropy.

That "really" explains why humans are 10x more smarter than animals such as monkeys. And why fire was created. Why television was created. Why medication was created. Why the computer was created.
Our brains are more complex. So what?

We didn't create fire. We discovered it and used it.

Then we discovered more and more and used it to invent stuff for our own needs.

We have no purpose to fulfill other than to reproduce like all other living creatures on this loving planet. There is no God to tell us to do it.

That tells me that evolution did exactly what it is said to have done.

I'm not even going to argue with you, considering you're not bright enough to know the difference between "our", and "are".

We also don't know if our brain is the most complex thing in the galaxy. That's completely unsupported nonsense.

You're wrong here. Twice.

Also heads up. As the brain gets better it pushes itself to get even better via evolution and natural selection. That's why we aren't throwing stuff at one another, along with a various other reasons.

Tom

We have no purpose to fulfill other than to reproduce like all other living creatures on this loving planet.
But you see religion filled that void, giving us a purpose.

Until the Cold War then our purpose was to stop Communism. :p

Tell me something, can any animal ever create anything more then a home, and reproduction?

Our brains are capable of near infinite pondering and adaptation, not unlimited storage space.

I dont see how the time period has to deal with it

but I was mistaken on what you said
my bad

Yes.

I dont understand what would be so bad in believing in God. You have nothing to lose. He's real you go to heaven. He's not then you just become dead. Lol

Pascal's wager in very simple words here.
