I could do this in grade 3.

Oh god 10 votes for 1.

Do they teach BODMAS/BIDMAS in American schools?

I learnt the order to maths through this.

B - Brackets
O/I - OrdersOf/Indices (Powers of, e/g 52, 63)
D - Division
M - Multiplication
A - Addition
S - Subtraction.

You must always work out brackets first, so you see an equation, go to the brackets and then work it out in order of the rest of them.

Brackets first, and follow through in there with the rest of the method.
Next you work out any Powers.
Then you do Division.
Then Multiplication.
Then Addition.
And Subtraction must come last.

6/2 x (1+2)
Code: [Select]
6/2(1+2)
Brackets first, leads to the addition
1+2 = 3
Code: [Select]
6/2(3)
Brackets have been done, so you move onto Division
6/2 = 3
Code: [Select]
3(3)
Now that Division is done, you move to Multiplication
3 x 3 = 9
Code: [Select]
9
Your final answer is 9, not 1.

thanks for the stereotype

Pemdas = BIMDAS, except its Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition and Subtraction.
Samething, just worded differently.

Idea: type echo(6/2(1+2)); into the Blockland console.
Problem solved.

A.) im not american myself
B.) which one are you, american or from the UK?
and how is that a funny stereotype?
A) Alright then.
B) My father is British, I was born in NJ. I'm both. I'm also Chinese, Scottish, and Irish. Problem, officer?
C) Everyone thinks Americans are idiots, Iraqis are terrorists, Chinese children make iPods on a daily basis, Irish people are always drunk, Russians are Communists, see where I'm going? It's for satirical purposes, really.

I don't see why there's such a big deal about it. It's pretty logical if you ask me. (nine.)

Wait hold on a second that problem is as easy as forget.
How the hell did your pastor get one?

He said he was taught differently in school. He said no matter what its Multiplication BEFORE division

Each operations' opposite has the same precedence, except you HAVE to do it in a left-right fashion.

Correct:
2 / 6 * 3 = 0.3333 * 3 = 1
I start with 2/6, then multiple by 3

Incorrect:
2 / 6 * 3 = 2 / 18 = 0.11111
However, if I disobey the left-right rule, I would start with multiplication, then go to division. That yields a different answer.

Division and multiplication are equivalent to each other as are subtraction and addition, order decides which comes first.

Its not 2/6 its 6/2

Its not 2/6 its 6/2
I used my own equation.

I'll do the original instead:
6 / 2 * 3 = 3 * 3 = 9

6 / 2 * 3 = 6 / 6 = 1

There's a difference between having a relative or parent from one nation and being part of that nation.
If you don't live in Britain or don't have a British birth certificate or a Certificate of British Citizenship, then you're not British, especially considering British isn't technically a race, as British covers people from a number of different countries.

If you're an American citizen then you're American. You just happen to have British ancestry in your family. That doesn't make you part of that ancestry nor does it tie you to it.
You're not Chinese, Scottish or Irish. I doubt you're a citizen of any of those countries. Because your long gone family comes from there doesn't mean you do.

The fact that you're mentioning satirical stereotypes doesn't in anyway actually give reason as why it was in anyway funny to claim Americans as being the only people who would get this question wrong.
Not all satire is funny.

Also of note, if you were British, you'd know the correct american stereotype is Fat and Stupid.
Tip: That's just a stereotype viewed by some. I'm not saying all Americans are such.

I used my own equation.
I see.
Btw guys me and Shard did our math test today. Hopefully did alright! My average is 79 :I

Following Order of Operations:

6/2(1+2)
6/2(3)
6/6
1.

Assuming One Multiplies 6/2 by 3/1:
6/2*3/1=18/2
18/2=9.
I just know someone's going to tell me how wrong and stupid I am.
