tf2 is a game about balance. you want to play at long range? play the sniper.
the pyro is supposed to be a close range class, and the majority of the weapons are built for it
you can easily dodge a flare gun shot if you're not an idiot.

i hit most people though, so therefor it is useful to me

and i mostly use it on 2fort, in the sewers

the fg is honestly really terrible, and again, it's not what pyros are for
I always see so many pyros on my team trying to play snipers, while the enemy flanks are completely clear
it pisses me off

flare gun shots are slow as stuff, and a good team will have dispensers and medics anyway

and above all, just play sniper if you want to longrange things

Flare gun is a nice weapon because it isn't a change in power but a change in use from the shotgun, unlike many other class weapons.
