can someone tell me why anyone would want to use the gru

speed is a big part of tf2 especially when you start doing harder tf2 such as lobbies/comp and even a couple of pubs where mostly comp players play
this is one of the reasons in 6s the classes mostly played are demo (sticky jumping) soilders (rocket jumping) scouts (faster and double jumping) and medic (second fastest class in the game in general walking speed), all of these classes are good at mobility (and obviously there are other reasons these classes are the 6s ones lol)
heavy being able to go faster and having the ability to get to battle grounds faster is a big advantage to the team because it makes your offence and defence much stronger due to the fact you have an extra power class helping you with the objective

if you're using gru mid battle you are crazy.

Basically you run to the battlefield with them, get an hp kit/medic then fight.

Yeah, you don't really use them in battle. They're for getting up to the battling.
