Knights of the Old Republic was long before World of Warcraft.
Star Wars Galaxies was long before it as well.

I'm excited to see how this game goes. I've watched it since they revealed it at e3 a year or so ago, I'm eager to play it.

Paid subscriptions are the most common method, it is most likely to be monthly and/or annually.
I wouldn't expect a one-time payment, nor for it to be free, for such a large game.

I wish it was more of a free flight kinda game. Maybe like star wars battlefront.

No, no. The missions are going to be rail shooters, the PvP will be like All Range Mode. It will be tight.
