Author Topic: Freedom of speech suppressed at the Jefferson Memorial  (Read 7381 times)

As I type I'm wearing a "got freedom?" shirt. Hm.

Anyway, I believe as the video went on the arrested men pushed the limits and were indeed trying to instigate something. Just because you have the right to dance, or to kiss or whatever in a place like a solemn memorial doesn't mean you necessarily should.

At first, they were not disturbing anybody, and I believe the cops should not have approached them in the first place. However, the fact that the offenders pushed their luck until they were forcefully subdued puts some blame on their part. It's really not that hard to just stop, because you don't HAVE to be dancing in a place like that.

I thought it was funny how when the offenders asked "What law is that? That says we can't dance?" and the cop couldn't answer him. That was most likely because in some cases dancing would be considered public demonstration (like in the case of a flash mob) but in this case it was one person, dancing quietly with earbuds in. No "demonstration" there.
You might have noticed at the end that the cops were directing other people away from the memorial. They clearly considered this a big deal. And while I agree that the people dancing were being a little obnoxious about it, there was absolutely no need to body slam and choke that poor fellow.

Yeah, I did see that part. The cops blew the situation way out of the water, poor dancing guy. That body slam looked painful. It didn't really look like the cop that did it was capable of doing that though, lol.

Yeah, I know. I have nothing against the police, but it seemed like the officers in this video were simply hired muscle. Also that bike helmet was ridiculous.

He was a small skinny man with a big heart?
Anyways giving me my size I could do that.

I know, right? The brutality, body slamming and choking? Sure, fine. But that bike helmet? That ain't gonna fly, sister.

Size doesn't mean stuff, I was judging his ability to pick up a thickly built man and throw him down by his sizable double chin. And the bike helmet that made him look like a junior officer in training. Honestly I didn't expect it, but once he did it I expected more of a reaction out of the shades man.

He was holding back mental anger, honestly he could do anything. Pick up a house, and count all of the atoms in his toes.

These people disgusting and you people are disgusting for supporting it. You have no idea why freedom is valuable.

These people are starting stuff for absolutely no other reason than to start stuff (so they can put it on youtube). No one has the inherent right to do that, nor is there any reason to allow it anywhere, especially in a solemn place.

Requiring a permit is not a problem as long as permits are provided in a timely manner and without special preference; that's called being a grown-up and accepting the plurality of the world; accepting that the world doesn't stop turning just because you're pissed off about something. You only go apestuff anarchist when you can't petition in a reasonable manner. But it's not even an issue in this case since they have no cause other than general anarchism and richard-headedness, which is not remotely protected by the constitution or the ideals of the founding fathers.

And not that you guys are associated with the title of the video (Qwepir notwithstanding), but I am getting pretty loving sick of people using the term "police brutality" to mean anything the police ever do that they disapprove of. When someone is resisting after being given clear warnings to stop then it cannot be police brutality unless the suspect stops resisting and the violent measures continue. When that dude was on the ground with a hand on his throat, he showed his hands and didn't resist at all and the cops didn't do jack to him afterwards. Wrongful detaining, wrongful search/seizure of property, wrongful arrest, verbal abuse without violence (edit: turns out this one is debatable), planting evidence or other forms of framing, entrapment, not reading a suspect their rights... these are injustices, but not police brutality. It just makes everyone more handicapped in any subject if you throw around terms at random until they lose all meaning, especially if there are no convenient synonyms. Please don't ever follow this vid's example and throw around "police brutality" like that.

But there was no grounds to arrest the men on in the first place. The incident should not have happened.

He wasn't really resisting before before he was body slammed. He wasn't fighting back the cop or anything, and he just got body slammed for no reason. The people kissing resisted of course, because on no grounds should they have even been approached.
