Author Topic: Unexplained sudden lag+drop in framerate  (Read 1735 times)

I start a singleplayer offline server on the bedroom map, when I look in certain directions my game suddenly gets very choppy. Whats worse is it sometimes changes positions, so I can look in the direction that was making it choppy and it is fine. Though when I look in another direction the same thing starts happening. In red_guys unlimited mining I rarely lag, the only lag I would experience is if falling down a tunnel at the highest velocity possible while having to ghost all the bricks as I fell. - (That was before this odd thing started happening)

This problem has effected me online too. Same thing, looking in a certain direction causes my fps to drop and me to lag, when I look away from that direction i'm fine. Then it changes areas and it's just frustrating.

All my drivers are updated.
Removed ALL add-ons; to no avail.
Reinstalled; to no avail.
Turned all graphic settings to lowest possible; to no avail.
Searched for possible solutions; to no avail.

This problem started a month ago (estimate) and has been bothering me ever since. None of my other games have had any performance differences.

It's something with ghosting.
The engine only renders bricks you see.
When you look around it renders all the bricks you have just ghosted but haven't rendered yet. Which lags.
Look at everything before you start playing so you won't lag later.

Let me clarify - this happens even with all bricks in the server are ghosted for me.

Yeah he said bricks you have ghosted but not rendered yet.

Clarifying again - This happens even after I have ghosted, rendered, VIEWED, LOOKED AT, ETC. This happens not because of the bricks, the bedroom map with no bricks built causes this to happen.

Graphics card may be overheating.

I have a similar problem. I think it has to do with portaled interiors in the cases of interior maps. When I look at the window of Bedroom, I lag tremendously. Sometimes, the whole Bedroom lags me. In such cases, I escape inside the bed and the lag stops, unless I look at the hallway of it leading out. Kitchen always lags me, so I escape into the cabinets when I finally spawn while lagging. I love Slate maps.

Same with me. It's the map interiors.

Though why has it just started happening recently and not always have happened? Doesn't make sense for it to start randomly acting up. This also happens on slate too.

Recently just discovered this:

When I look at the area that lags me and use the paint while still looking at that area; that odd thing happens ^^^

I've figured out what has been causing this. Disabling v-sync in the options menu and then restarting fixes the problem altogether. Now a new problem arises, what caused v-sync to go wacky and now that v-sync is disabled some things like rapid-fire with the hammer no longer work as planned.

This happens to me in servers with lots of bricks, like city builds, mining games, etc.
But that is because I have an integrated graphics card on a computer from around 2004.

Number of bricks does not cause this to happen: Happens on singleplayer with no bricks, and on multiplayer with no bricks.

I suspect this is half your problem.  upgrade to windows7 if you can.

Do you have issues with any other games?
