The place is full of members willing to give you bot-building tips and advice, and there are regular tournaments for participation also.

I was about to make a topic for this.
I cant BELIEVE someone already has. I love this game so loving much I can't express it. Also if you have the messed up buttons, get the 1.3 patch from gametechmods.com. THIS IS loving EPIC. I've had this for like 5 years. I know the arenas like the back of my hand, I know every single exploitable glitch, and I've made some epic bots. My love for this game cannot be said in words. :D

Quite simple, a servo and a Z-Tek is quite easy.

Beginner's Guide:

Start off taking the default "C.R.U.S.H." and replace the hammer with a 2 connector, each having a pickaxe, for a replica of "Raptor". Next take on a few challenges, then....this is difficult to write a guide for XD
