Mabinogi is a game where, you are your own person. It is a "Fantasy Life" MMORPG and there are actual RPG elements to it. You can play an instrument, you can be a trader, you can be an idiot, you can even just be a normal person. There are times in your life in the game where you will have the ability to transform, into a paladin, a dark knight, a demigod, a Falcon(Giant bird looking person), or a great Beast.(Evil sinister looking giant)
When you start, you used to get a sword, but now i think you get nothing. You can add spirits to your weapons, and also feed your weapons. There is durability and when it runs out you are forced to repair, or sell. You can also dye your clothes with dye ampoules obtainable by paying some of the currency that you must pay in real life for. It is not neccesary to have fun. You get a free horse for 7 days currently for signing up and playing as a sort of promotion as I am aware of. Any player now has a free horse. It is a fun game when you get into it because its fun to do group quests, group raids and just have fun. You can play as a human, elf, or giant. You should choose human.
You should choose human because of the fact that if you do not you will be unable to create all three races and truly experience the view from an Elf, Giant, and Human. You are able to get a free Elf AND Giant by going to their homelands, and speaking to their leaders. Giants are better for strength. Elves are better for manuverability. Humans are all-around. You should choose which you like, strength, manuverability and "agility" if you can call it that, or all around good. Human is best choice for beginners though. Age 10 is not recommended. 17 or 15 is better as you are stronger in the beginning at a higher age.
