Author Topic: Build your way out challenge - gamemode.  (Read 1021 times)

So say you run into a big empty room and you can't get out. Well the only way to get out is building, however you can't build normally. You get 10 brick slots which hold specific bricks the host wants you to use. If you plant a brick it will remove itself from the brick inventory. If a player dies, leaves or respawns to the next level their bricks should be cleared automatically.

If you want one person per room challenge builds then this mod will need a waiting period. The game should switch to the next person waiting if the other died, left the server, went to the next room or just took too long to solve.

This mod will need special events specifically for this.

Such as on checkpoint spawn, select the 10 bricks you want to spawn automatically with the player.
Instant respawn to the next level checkpoint when reached to the end of the room.
No brick planting zones.

(That's all I can think of for now).

I'm really not getting this.
You only get 10 bricks that are all different? And only be able to use them once?

It's not hard to get. Haven't you played any video games that gave you specific items so you can advance to the next level?

Here is an example, not the best example but still an example.

There is many other better games like this with the same concept.

Like Salvage mods brick holding feature, but you cant salvage things, and you can set what bricks, and how many, you start with. Right?

Interesting idea for a challenge, but the challenge factor would be weak.

That all depends on how you build the challenge rooms. I can imagine someone building a challenge room that is extremely complicated and you need to figure out how the 1-10 bricks you are given will work with the challenge.

What if you had more than 10 bricks or had to build your way to a chest or another object that has more bricks or a helpful items. It should also have obstacles you have to build around.

What if you had more than 10 bricks

You can only carry 10 bricks in your brick inventory, unless someone had some kind of hacky method to include doubles.

or had to build your way to a chest or another object that has more bricks or a helpful items.

This I never thought about, good idea. We could also use an optional way to gain more bricks in the challenge.

It should also have obstacles you have to build around.

This all depends on the imagination of the person building the challenge.

We also have great add ons to further make your challenges more challenging. Such as bots, plungers, kill events, projectiles, velocity events, sentries, etc. You would have to use your 10 bricks to figure out ways to get past these things.

You could always make a new player type that can hold more bricks or make an item that holds you bricks, like a bag.

A new playertype is not the answer. You could probably do this with a standard player.

Good idea.

Blockland needs more building related minigames. Unfortunately, the good ol' trust system makes this difficult.
There's a fine balance between allowing a user to plant a couple bricks and making your server vulnerable to spamrape.

Obviously the trust system is necessary, don't get me wrong - I'm just sayin', makes it difficult.

here's how you make this easier

get a box map
get salvage mod
display 10 bricks on the ground
???
profit

get a box map
get salvage mod

I personally would rather build my challenge but using salvage mod like you suggested would mean I would end up naming every brick in my challenge 'static' and this could possibly make evented bricks that require names other than 'static' impossible to work with.

display 10 bricks on the ground

Then I may possibly never see those 10 bricks again. Allowing me to constantly replant new bricks.

So which seems easier now, my way or your way?

so you would build a challenge rather than make something so simple? make a map. however I do see your point on the 10 bricks.

so you would build a challenge rather than make something so simple?

Yes I most certainly would. I don't want something simple like a box map if my challenges were to include things like death pits, velocity jump platforms, plunger switches, etc.

I can always make a demo example of what your typical challenge build for this may look like. Of course it won't work with out the suggestions I made for the mod but the basic concept is still going to be there.
