Author Topic: How many polygons are too much for Blockland?  (Read 2097 times)

I've been thinking about this, but just cant find the answer: How many polygons is too much for Blockland?

I personally think that 500 triangles is fine. At 1000 I'm starting to sweat.

Nah, 2000 is when it starts becoming questionable. 1000 is fine.

1000 is basically the limit for weapons.

Vehicles can go over 1,500, but you should stay around there.

Pretty much, But if you have a low end system like mine you'll lag at 1000 when theres about 20 vehicles, So its good to keep poly to a minimum.

And your mesh something seriously wrong if it has 10k tris.

Roger that.

Yea, what Demian and I said are not the physical limit, they are just the guidelines.

No, that's the literal limit per mesh/object for torque.

Mind you, you should never use that many verticies for a game like blockland, not with all the freedom the game gives you to spam the ever living crap out of stuff.

Who gave me the impression that he agrees that 10k triangles is too much (But 9k is acceptable) when in my opinion it's please-die-in-a-fire too much.

Look at the player m.dts and other .dts files that are supplied with blockland.
try to keep yours as close to that as possible.

Then take and figure how many of your models are going to be in game at the same time (then multiply x5).  Setup a test map of your own and see if you lag.  if you lag, its too many polygons.

if you dont lag, have a friend with a lousy pc join your game and test.  if he lags, it might be too many.  if he doesnt lag, then your good.
