I'd like to pose an honest question: If you can acknowledge the severe lack of evidence for any probable existence of a divine deity, why believe in one?

This is assuming that you do acknowledge the scientific improbability of a God.

a real god wouldn't need worship or any kind of acknowledgment.
creating people just to feel needed is a huge personality flaw lol; something a god likely wouldn't have.

We are not talking about theism :).

What is a real god then?

really? because i see like 15 pages discussing what makes a god real or not. my reply applies to this thoroughly.

i cant deny there isnt a sort of creator out there. but to think it is watching us with expectations is ridiculous.

Being ridiculous doesn't mean it's false.

having expectations is imperfect though.

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead.* On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.

This is the Apostles' Creed, the fundemental beliefs of all Christians. I, as well, believe these with all my heart.
Before you go all "OMG RELIGIOOOOON" on me, this is what the topic is about. Alright then?
*=This line is an exception, because some believe Jesus never descended to hell.

What defines godlike enough to say expectations rules them out?

God expects us to be who we are, but he also expects us to repent when we sin. He didn't create us waiting to say, "There! I got you! Now you'll go to hell." Far from it.

As for your "scientific improbability" of God, there are many scintific PROBABILITIES of God. There have been instances of proving the existance of God, not disproving it. Science can't explain everything, but I believe the more we learn about science, the more we learn about God. We can explore God's vast and amazing creation with science, yet we ridiculous humans attempt to disprove him. Do you think everything that is here happened merely by chance? Chance! Ha! This could not all be up to chance. If evolution is real, as science states, how come we can't find anything remotely close to Earth out there? How come nothing out there resembles Earth's conditions? Could it be that a loving creator put us here for a reason?

I've heard the opposite and it looks like you just switched the words around.
