Ninja Gaiden is, by nature, nearly impossible to complete in any reasonable timeframe, so it's not difficult but it is a loving annoying challenge

Difficult: Needing much effort or skill to accomplish, deal with, or understand.
Near is impossible is just a type of difficulty. They way you are saying it is that there is only one type of difficulty, and if it's less or more difficult than that it is not considered difficult anymore.
