Lot a of creepy stuff happened in my basement.

My mom ran down and took a picture of the ghost, and it looked like a Mexican.

We named him Philippe. No lie.

"so like, i heard noises so i turned on the light"

the simplest explanation for things like this, hearing dishes rattle, sounds like something being put on the table, a fridge opening ect. is the house is "settling" its got to do with heat and expansion/contraction but basically it happens in every house and things sound like people are here, i often hear what sounds like someone putting things on the table but i know the cause of this, though even though people can know that there fear is impossible and irrelevant it doesnt mean it wont scare you.
My old house would creak like a bitch every day. This house has creaked 3 times in the 2 1/2 years we've lived here. The dishes were probably setting, but the floorboards never creak without pressure applied to them. And its also the way it creaked. It was obvious pressure was put onto it

Also, good job above poster, enjoy your ban.

My mom saw a ghost in our house once. He looked like a scholar, apparently.
He smiled when he noticed her and disappeared. I'm pretty sure my dad said something about moving a grave when he was building the house, too.

Oh sorry, that was me.

On a more serious note, I know exactly what you're talking about. I was at a friend's house for a sleepover one time and we were bored out of our loving minds because the power went out (storming like all hell outside) and we couldn't play any video games or anything like that, so we decided to play a board game. When his parents got home with take-out (because they couldn't cook anything due to power outage), we went into the kitchen to have dinner. After dinner, we went back upstairs to his room to finish our board game. When we got back up there, all the board game pieces were scattered all over his room and the board was upside down. He has no pets, nor siblings, and the only people in the house were all sitting at the dinner table downstairs.

I don't really remember what we did after that but I think the power came on not too much later, so we kind of just dismissed it as something like, "Maybe one of us knocked it on the floor when we stood up to go downstairs." That was about a year ago, neither of us have forgotten it, although we kinda joke about it now whenever it comes up in conversation.
How did the take-out place have power? :O

Could have been in an area not hit by the outage.

One night we had a massive power outage, but some areas still have small amounts of electric flow.

I just remembered. In the same hallway to my garage one night I was in the bathroom (I sense a motif) and I heard someone outside of the door. As if they were standing there waiting. Freaked the hell out of me. I opened the door and no one was there. Also, it was 1 in the morning and I was wide awake. Now its time to go all Haunted collector on you all. So the guy who used to live here, the garage was his, no one was allowed to park inside of it except him. That is possible why that area of the house is so damn creepy. Oh, I forgot to mention, we got the house because that same guy died in a motorcycle accident. Everytime I walk in that hallway, I get the feeling that I'm not alone. Every time. Its loving scary.
