Author Topic: Spore Megathread  (Read 1239 times)

Yes, Spore. The 2008 videogame we mostly know and sometimes love, although the bugs make us want to rape our computers.
Spore, and its expansions, the Creepy and Cute Part Pack and the much more amazing Galactic Adventures Expansion pack have spawned two spin-offs: Spore Hero for the Wii, and Spore Hero Arena for the DS, as well as Darkspore, a massive Action RPG that combined Diablo with the Spore Creature Creator. This topic encompasses all of these.
Discuss. What did you love/hate? Want to change? Success stories? What makes you want to throw the disc out the window? Etc.

Spore '05 was better.

[sarcasm] I haven't heard that before... [/sarcasm]

Rumor is out Will Wright gave up on Spore. I sure hope he didn't.

I hope he did. If he allowed this to happen while he was still working on it, I am highly disappointed that this man's notion of a scientific game changed into a 5 year old friendly pile of stuff.

Well, if he did, then there is no hope for it. I think they halted Spore because of Darkspore, which I think was a big waste of time. I hope that now that Darkspore is out that EAxis will focus more on the original, which they can't have not noticed the people crying for improvements on that game. And please, God forbid they should keep working on the Sims series. They have enough stuff for that, stuff which people don't buy.

Obviously people buy it, they wouldn't make something if people weren't spending money on it.

But I honestly don't know why they wouldn't release a refined '05 Spore. That's what every consumer wanted, so they'd probably sell it to all the people that already bought it anyway.

Most likely.
The real thing people wanted is the "Aquatic Stage" that was never released, but was to be included in 2005 Spore.

Yes, and the reason was the controls. When they used the same technical controls in space stage.

The controls, and moving in a fluid environment. But yes, as you said, they have this AND the fluid environment perfectly staged in Space. Refine it to be more creature-like, and slow down ascent/descent, you have yourself an aquatic stage.

The space stage was horrible IMO

The space stage was horrible IMO

They could have made it far more complex.
Along with Civilization. And Tribe... and Creature.

They had the right idea in the beginning, then it was the factors of "Will the players be able to figure this out, or will the players like doing this?". Stupid cutesy spore.

The tutorial was loving stupid for Space, IMO. I could have figured out Colonization, Communication, Exploration, Trading, and Combat myself, easily. That's Space 101, brah.

I heard that if you find a special star or planet you end the game idk saw it in youtube

No, you never truly "end the game," although the game's "end" is after you reach the title of Omnipotent and make it to the Galactic Core.
