Author Topic: Virus of some sort.  (Read 2275 times)

Its not fatal, its just adware. The computer won't "die", it will just keep getting pop-ups.
If Norton wont do it: Get a temporary, small, free antvirus like ClamWin.
You never know. I've had one virus like that and my computer died after a week.

Adware is harmless, just annoying. If they did harm it would be marked as a Trojan Virus/Virus.

Haha, I had a nasty virus a few years back that tried to download research on my computer.

It was funny because I already had the research it tried to make me download...

Jaykay.

Serious about the virus though, took me forever to kill.

Problem, viruses?

The thing about viruses is that they take over a lot more than what you think they target. You could remove the file, sure, but the entries are still in your registry and you need to remove those to get rid of problems completely. There are even more things they do to hide...

Virii have always been like that.
Virus detection software kills the entire tree of the virus.
Sometimes even registry cleaners do.

EDIT: What are we discussing here? :I

I know this, but I read somewhere that some viruses can actually hide in your computer's BIOS. I don't know if that's true, but some people recall reformatting their entire computer and booting it up to realize that they still have a virus.

Eventually I learned to stick to stuff I know is safe.

No need for that. If you do come across a malicious website, you just Task Manager your way out of it before it downloads something to your computer.
