I think the people who made made the episode were aware that the episode was stuff because they had to make a "Alicorn Twilight" episode for sales.
They where probably just trying to please us, probably in a way saying "We're sorry". Remember how they said they had to fade Derpy out? They put her in anyway. Just for us.
