assuming they're not fake, i'm thinking it could be another flashback scene. Celestia has been hurt, and Nightmare Moon has risen.

from the comiccon animatic, it has been guessed that Twilight is being placed in flashbacks from a thousand years ago but not able to interact with the surroundings (due to Luna's words being implied towards Celestia and not acknowledging Twilight)

but hell, perhaps there are no flashbacks. perhaps the past is repeating itself, or something else entirely
