I agree with your post, however I wish to throw this out there as well.

By allowing Off topic to be open, it allows people to interact with the community, get to know people,  maybe there will be a few people that buy keys because they find a few forum friends.

Of course by my logic here you could also say that someone could be lurking without a key and would see a nice, loving community, that would encourage them to buy a key.

It wouldn't necessarily cause more people to contribute, but the ratio of contribution and BS would be leveled off just a bit more nicely.  And more people who join the forums will be people who play blockland, and eventually all the crap might get filtered out.

There has always been crap, even when were a slightly smaller community when I first joined.

Posting in a forum for a game they don't own should not be something that is just given to them.  You shouldn't be able to post in a forum for a game you aren't even considering to buy just for stuffs and giggles. 

The only reason you would need to post without a key is to ask about the game or get help for demo.  Help is unlocked and

general discussion should be unlocked.
