Author Topic: My opinion on the current state of Lego  (Read 6547 times)

I think LEGO has gone downhill since 2000. Ideas are not fresh, builds are easier and smaller, with less playablity. Lego really had it goin in the timeframe of 1990-1997. That was the only time most of MY legos come from- insightful, fun, and downright creative. Better logo, too. I LOVED the System logo... but, I guess, with the modernization, LEGO will fade into recycled sets... but it will always be in my heart for the 90s.

too many pieces they only use once or twice, ESPECIALLY in anything Technic-related

they're trying to get too detailed

I loved the Legos i had as a kid, just bricks.
Now days you pay $200 and you can build a spaceship and nothing else, i miss when you'd just have a bucket of Lego and build whatever you wanted.
:c

I've still got a huge bucket full of the old legos. Mum wants me to sell them, "they just sit there", no way.

I have a 2x4 Lego flash drive

I took the strap off, opened up some tubs and constructed a nice casing for it

hell yeah

I agree 100%. Their sets are nothing but watered down remakes, idea rip offs and commercial advertising such as Toy Story, Star Wars, etc. Their games are horrible too as each one is basically a clone of itself. All the star wars games, indiana jones, batman and Pirates of the Caribbean are exactly the same stuff with little to no actual improvement and very unfunny dry humor. The games are also becoming more undetailed and cartoony and for some reason lego minifigures have bendy limbs. I liked it better in Lego Island when everything was realistically detailed with non bendy limbs and with actual humor.

Clones are cool :c

I play with legos to pass when my house has a power outtage and I have nothing else to do

I agree as well. Lego isn't as creative as it used to be. I didn't really enjoy the games that much either. The Technic series seems okay though, along with the old Lego railway stuff and some other stuff. Still, Lego could do with some more originality.

Also, why does everyone say 'Legos' instead of just 'Lego' when referring to Lego in plural?

I think LEGO has been to commercialized. The first Star Wars sets were okay, but it's just gone wrong since then. I mean: Winneh the Pooh, Bob the Builder, Pirates of the Carribean, Cars, Prince of Persia, SpongeBob, Avatar... the list never ends! Come on! What's next? I don't even wanna know..

I'm also dissapointed about where the playability has gone. Bricks get larger and less generic. A plane can be built from 4 bricks nowadays! I think LEGO looses it's charm when you can't rebuild it anymore.
That's why 70s/80s LEGO is the best. A couple of 2x4s and whoosh!, you have a house!

my friend used to buy different lego sets just for the special bricks, then we would build forts with them and build fighter planes, we would throw the planes to see who's fort could stay up longer.

TECHNIC and Mindstorms, in my opinion, shouldn't have been created at all. They're like LEGO's handicapped cousins that always stay with him and mooch off of him.

lol, build a fort with 2x4's -> planes get smashed to pieces.

I disagree. TECHNIC and Mindstorms are okay. They're aiming for an audience who wants a more advanced, in-depth LEGO experience. Kinda like those detailed trains and Architecture sets.

The bricks for the New Sets are to Big and the Sets are to small...

I loved those CREATOR sets. Those things that were pretty much a big box of bricks and an instruction manual that showed how to make like ten different things.
I had this guy, and it was awesome.

That was a good lego set.

Also, I inherited a big typewriter case full of legos when my grandma died. It had a bunch of the old spacemen and knights in it, as well as a bunch of old pieces. I think I was actually able to rebuild this once:
