Author Topic: Server description.  (Read 1043 times)

Imagine if RTB had a description for each server that could be edited in RTB preferences. Wouldn't that be cool? Instead of wasting your time asking what exactly is going on, you could check the description! The server title is too small to explain it all.

No one would use it, or use it correctly. Most would be "JOIN MEEEE!!!!!#@#@^" and "lol i haxxed dis servr" instead of anything useful. We have enough entries of server purpose and such. If it isn't descriptive enough, don't join.

This.
That.

Closest thing we have to that is server info. And all that tells you is the addons enabled, and whether you want to download them if they are hosted by RTB.

Wouldn't the server name basically tell you everything you need to know anyway? Like freebuild or TDM

No.
I remember going to a zombie server, and it was really a fortwars.

I think that's the host's fault for not changing the name then. Besides if they aren't gonna change the name they aren't gonna change any server description

There has always been a "$description=" line in the preferences in Blockland that remains empty. I'm not sure why its there or what it is used for, but maybe such a feature is in development or was being considered at one point.

I saw that before. I entered "Hi" and nothing popped up anywhere. Except in the console, it read could not execute action "Hi"

$description = "commandToServer(\'messageSent\',\"Lolz\");";

$description = "commandToServer(\'messageSent\',\"Lolz\");";
So would that command even do anything?

If anything it should be a tag system (its been discussed before) that would allow you to select server tags from a default list. "tdm", "freebuild", "rp", "dm", "clan", etc.

I still like my idea. Sometimes, servers with many people have misleading titles. If you try to ask someone to clarify, you might get ignored.
