I prefer PS3 to Xbox, although I had only owned an Xbox for a small amount of time before I got RROD.

Yes, the PS3 community is overall more mature than the Xbox community. It's more fun to play tactical shooter games on the PS3, because nobody's really just running out into the open and shooting (excluding Black Ops.)

But, of course, I've always enjoyed Halo and Gears of War.

Depends on the game and the people you're playing with, really. Most people are casual on the PS3, but I know lots of groups that have competitive fights in Black Ops, BF:BC2, etc.
