Author Topic: DrenDran and his new add-on  (Read 16951 times)

I'm on the fence about failing this. From the looks of it it's just been used to forget with people via Eval. I have yet to see something useful done with it.
I have actually been using this for useful purposes in my server.
The add-on hardly using eval at all anyway.
Holy forget you people are idiots, can't believe what I just read.  The mod is very useful, from a modders point of view.
Thank you!

add-on is hardly using*

I understand the add-on itself isn't using eval to do bad things or anything, it just looks like you're using eval to mess with clients on your server via this add-on. I retract my earlier statement about being on the fence about failing it - I can't see any reason to. That said if this does start adding GUI downloading then that's another kettle of fish.

The problem here just seems to be DrenDran not being responsible with the power this add-on gives the server over the client in this case, but I don't care too much about that personally.

That's even more of a reason for me to take it off RTB then. RTB already has GUI downloading?
I think DrenDran mentioned something about RTB's GUI downloading being buggy and limited. If it really is that great, then why haven't I seen any add-ons that utilizes it?

You can bring that up somewhere more appropriate if you're genuinely curious.

1. While there is some "gui transfer" capibility it is dynamic and was going to be a different approach to RTB. However I can remove that if needed. Not that I or anyone else used it yet anyway.
2. I don't abuse it on my server to just piss people off, but I have occasionaly tried show everyone some of its features while the game is running. I get a lot of questions about why people should get this add-on, and about what it does, and I just try to awnser them in the quickest fashion.

I agree with him aslo DrenDran were almost similar alike Iban does.

I still don't understand how being deaf cripples your grammar.

But in Iban's defense in the name of truth, he never messed with clients with Eval.

Neither have I.

I have wondered that too. lol

I suppose you mean the RTB modding topic?
Still, I don't see any problems with him adding it; noone (that I know of, at least) uses RTB's system so it wouldn't cause compatibility problems with existing add-ons.

My origional idea with it was that mine could be changed or added during play (it can also use all the controls, though this isn't important), unlike RTB and therefore could be used for a lot more.
But I don't use it and don't care if I must remove it.

Dynamic GUI alteration is something I'll be adding eventually - the current version in v3.5/4 is just the first stage of implementing GUI downloading functionality.

I tend to remove add-ons from RTB if they conflict with or re-implement features that are currently in or going to be in RTB. A few server management/clan management add-ons have been removed as part of that. It's the only reason I bring this up.

I don't mean to hijack this topic with RTB crap - if you guys have any more questions/comments about it please ask them in the right place or pm me.

Yeah, sure, I'll disable the GUI part of it to stop any possible problems.
Besides, this topic is already resolved believe it or not, so it's not like you're hijacking much.
