Author Topic: A cave map  (Read 1393 times)

A map with a cave. I don't care how it looks, I just want a cave.

Is it even possible? I've never seen any.

I've always wanted this.
Especially on stuff like the slopes.
You would have to make models for all of the caves, because terrain doesn't work like that, so you would have to include them in the map zip. Then, you would have to make sure that they used the snow textures or whatever you wanted for it. Your model would probably look unrealistic when sitting all alone, but then you would probably be able to move the terrain around it so that it fit in.
Unfortunately, this would mean that tunnels going straight through the mountain are right out, unless you open up the terrain file somehow and delete certain parts of it, which could take ages to do, and it probably wouldn't work.
I believe that the way that terrain is saved uses vertexes to figure out exactly where the terrain is.
I gtg,  maybe talk about this more later.

You can make caves by deleting part of the ground and making a cave out of bricks or by making a model.

Yeah. How do you delete part of the ground?

You could lower the ground with Mission Editor. I accidentaly did that once. I screwed up my whole server. Try it.

It's possible to delete some ground with the Set Empty brush, then place a cave-like interior in the hole. The same can be done with a mountain or cliff face. I've tried it before with the old Blood Gulch map, the only complication is getting the mouth of the cave to be the proper size in TC so it takes up the entire hole.

If you build under the terrain, you will get the "buried" error.

I know how to do something like this, but for instance, if you want a map, as in Mission files and all, you have to use interiors.  For instance, the bunker at the map "Arctic".  The bunker goes underground and you can build and interact there.  If someone was dedicated enough to make a cave on Map2dif...

I keep thinking of Cave Johnson and his test facility built in a salt mine he bought. BUILD A SALT MINE WITH ASBESTOS ENRICHMENT SPHERES!

Wait.
You can BUILD in there?
I thought you couldn't.

The cave in TC would not have to fit the empty square, as it would be a simple matter to scale it to fit.
I'll be working on a cave map.

I ported the TBM mystic cave map and I get nothing but that buried error, it's a shame too the map was decent.

I do know how I can make my own cave map work around but I'm not sure how to explain it with out a picture.
