Author Topic: The used game market - My opinion  (Read 1644 times)

Yeah, we probably know this:
When we buy a game used, No money goes to the developer or publisher. that's bad.
But we also know that it was bought new at least once, but it's still bad.
Then I had a train of thought while watching Totalbiscuit's mailboxes for the 13/04 and 14/04, where used games crop up a few times.
Why don't the game shops hook up with the publishers of games, so that when a game is bought used, money goes to the devs and publishers too.
Thoughts on this, anyone?

game vendors want to make money too you know.

game vendors want to make money too you know.
They still get a profit of regular sales, but they can at least cut some of the cash to the developers.

why? the game was already bought new. why should that copy give the developers money again? it's already been sold.

They should just make game sales digital because my fatass doesn't like going all the way to gamestop to pick up new games.

Thing is, when you go to buy a game new, you are asked if you want to buy it preowned for cheaper, and people tend to say "yeah, okay." without thinking.
If the guy said no, then that's one more sale than what it would have been.

That too.

exact opposite here, they usually ask if I'd like to buy it new for a few dollars more, then they ask if I want to buy warranty, scratch protection, etc ..

Never came across crap like that when I buy a game. Must be different in the US.

Because the game developers and publishers already made a decent profit from when the game was first purchased new, and the chain selling it needs to make money, if not a little, off of the used game. When you take the money made from the used game and divide it among wages or whatever else spending, only a little is left as profit for the chain, meaning giving some to the publisher as well would mean less money for everybody.

Same, they encourage new sales.

A person buys the game, beats it, sells it used.
The game vendor sells the used game.
A person buys the used game.
The game vendor uses that money to order more games.
Repeat.

Well
My train of thought derailed and crashed.
