You won't get hacked. All port forwarding does is tell your router to take any incoming data on a specific port (or port range) and direct it to the specified IP.
Any data that then reaches your computer will be blocked by your firewall (assuming you have one) unless you tell it not to.

I don't understand why people think they will get hacked by forwarding a port.

As for help, I would suggest trying to connect to your router via cable, and trying your default gateway again.
