Author Topic: How good is 2x 4870 Radeons HD?  (Read 603 times)

So i'm deciding to upgrade from my stuffty GT 430, i can get one of the 4870's for free, the other one i will be purchasing soon. So can anyone please tell me how good these are?
I'm aiming to run Battlefield 3 or Crysis 2, or Metro 2033 (any one of the three), at recommended.

EDIT: i believe it compares to the GTX 260, is this correct?

You should be able to run them at around medium specifications, depending on your other components.

However its already two generations old, expect them to be outdated soon if not already.

i5 2500 quad 3.2ghz Turboable to 4GHZ.
8GB of RAM - i'm a memorywhore
1TB
50GB SSD - for main files.
Quick note: I'm going for 2 Radeons, every other thing is good for recommended 'cept the card.
Plus Windows 7 Ulimate.

I know they are 2 generations old, but they are still good cards apparently.

That's pretty good then.  It sort of compares to the 260, but even the 260 is outdated as well by two generations.

They are good, but just a bit old.

Yeah, any £100 modern-card solutions?

I have one 260 and it handles almost all modern games maxed out at 1080p except for antialiasing.

Would never get the 4870, at least now

Great, how much are they, i'm currently checking stuff now.

You're going to bottleneck your processor, but it's meh.

Recommend me a card for around £100? ($160)

Pph, my Radeon HD 4850 can max out everything I've tried with AT LEAST 25 fps.

I wouldn't suggest a 260, mainly because they're hard to find now and they're also power whores.

That's terrible.

$134, factory overclocked. Not sure how it holds up to the dual Radeons, though.

25 fps on Crysis maxed out is pretty good for this budget card.
But what I'm trying to say is, that card that he wants is better than mine, so it should have better performance.
