Author Topic: I'm seriously getting tired of my mom bugging me about playing killing games.  (Read 19360 times)

I got yelled at for playing Spiral Knights because you kill things.

Okay, this is just too much.  Coolio, tell your mom that I said she's a bitch.  Spiral Knights is not a violent game.  If she thinks it is, she should be institutionalized as quickly as possible.  Also, show her this post, specifically the next part.

I play a lot of fairly violent games.  Team Fortress 2, System Shock 2, Half Life, Half Life 2, Lost Planet, Lost Planet 2, Assassin's Creed, Halo, etc.  In most (if not all) of these games, killing PEOPLE is part the game's objective at some point.  TF2 basically has no point other than "kill as many people as possible".  System Shock 2 is full of blood and gore as part of the scenery, and most of the enemies you kill are human...  Err... Were human...  (Look at all the blood in that second pic!  Dear God almighty!)  Another thing about System Shock 2 is that it encourages you to kill enemies in the most brutal ways possible.  It forces you to brutally bludgeon your enemies to death with a bloody wrench, as your firearms are practically useless.  In the original Half Life, you were forced to kill U.S. Soldiers, and lots of them.  In Half Life 2, you have to deal with these guys...  In Lost Planet 2, one mission sends you into a mine just to kill tons of "Jungle Pirates" (basically, Rastafarians with huge guns).  The entire point of Assassin's Creed is to run around killing people.

These are the games I play (quite literally) all the time.  So, if violence in video games turns people into killers,  then why do I vomit at the sight of even small amounts of blood?  In video games, I run around butchering people without even thinking about it, as blood and gore splatter all over the place.  I hack their limbs of, laughing maniacally while blood sprays all over the screen.  In real life, I can't even stand the sight of blood.  Even thinking about it gives me the chills.  Yet, I still enjoy violent video games.  Can your backwards logic explain this?  I doubt it.

In 5th grade, I played L4D every night until 11 after I finished my homework.
I remained fine. I have solid straight a's. I haven't hurt anybody (except for a bit of sibling rivalry :P)
I play TF2, HL2, and pretty much any Valve game you can think of. I have GTA.
My mom gets ticked off when I play violent video games, but she hasn't really punished me for it or yelled or anything. Why, just yesterday I was playing a TF2 zombie server and I barricaded a door with a desk and she thought I was hurting someone, I think she just used it as an excuse to get me off.
My dad is a lot more tolerant, he'll joke about it and if he does get concerned he just tells me he doesn't want me playing, and then I explain I don't derive any violence from the games, and can in fact vent from said games. Then he's ok with it.
What I think you could do is ask her to be calm about it and try to talk together. Most arguments just have people talking over each other. Make this change by letting her talk first, then addressing her points when it's your turn.
Perhaps you could reach an agreement.

statistically, girls whom conservative parents hide under a rock, tend to be the biggest sluts ever later in life.

this prob dosnt relate to video games or violence at all. but interesting.

I know, I shouldn't be playing M rated games.
But really, CS:S isn't that violent. She just takes them away because of the rating, not what they're really like. If I get a chance to go on my parent's computer, I'll play some CS:S.

Then do some javascripting or imagefolder editing and fake the ratings.

Show her my post, then do this.

I was playing M rated games by the time I was 10.

What my parents had to say about it?

"How much does it cost?"

WIN!  :D  I wish my parents were like that.  My mom works at a hospital, and my dad worked in a funeral home when he was much younger.  Since they've both seen death firsthand, they're more than a little reluctant to allow me to play violent video games.  I say, screw that, I play what I want.

@OP: Just tell her it's just a game. You wouldn't do that in real life would you?

I can understand when you are younger, like 8 or 9, because you're brain soaks stuff up like a sponge then. But eleven? What the forget?  I play war games where you command panzer tank units and my mom doesn't give a rat's ass.

"hey stop running old people over!"

I'm going to install UT2K4 soon.

I still say you should show her my post.

No, don't do that Shadow. Last time this happened on Roblox, my mom banned me from the game and the forum. So, please don't.

I'm going to install Postal. c:

Well, being banned from Roblox isn't much of a loss.  In fact, I'd say that's a good thing.
