I think most people use religion as sort of a blame game. They want excuses for bad things that are really just chance. Just look at midevil 'science' lol

I'm atheist for the sole reason that I find science to be more explaining and elaborate than any religious stories. I have no need for an idea of creation that made sense 2,000 years ago, but fails under our new found knowledge.

Now, don't start pulling the "all religions are violent" crap. Have you heard of Quakers perhaps? My aunt is one. They're the most pacifistic religion, and you really have to hand it to them for being organized (their meetings). Unfortunately, I think they were one of the groups burned as witches...

not saying religions are violent, just saying that a lot of hate and war comes from them like a thousand years ago

also, religion was made to fill the hole of knowledge that humans didn't know a long long time ago. now that science is taking over more people are starting to give it up. when science becomes more and more advanced, more people will give up on religion
