This evening I turned on my xbox to play Black Ops with some friends. My xbox is set up in the kitchen (best tv in the house is there), and we had just finished dinner, so my mom was still sitting at the table doing somethin' or other. Anyway, I start up a gun game and she starts going off about the fact that it's a shooting game. Below are some choice quotes from her infuriating comments:
"This game shows no appreciation for life whatsoever!"
"You should join the army so you can shoot a real gun, and see if that's any better."
"Why don't you ever play something that doesn't involve killing mindlessly!" (she says knowing I play minecraft"
"There should be a game where you go around shooting all the cats and dogs and things, and you get extra points for killing the horses."
"There's no value to this game."
"I'm not surprised teenagers go around in their schools shooting people, they just think it's a game." (school shootings seldom occur anywhere, and when they do it's not because of videogames whatsoever)
This crap carried on for a solid 10 minutes. I tried to explain that it's not anything like shooting a real gun, it's just entertainment and it's one of the best selling game genres of all time. There's not supposed to be value, it's a videogame. Keep in mind I'm 16, and was 15 when I bought black ops, meaning in either case she had to approve me buying this game. I told her this as well, and she just said "Well if I had said no you would have just moaned to me about it". Which is probably true, but what the hell, she's the parent.
I'm telling you guys this because I would appreciate a way to get my mom off my back about this stuff. It makes me mad beyond belief and she does the same thing over TF2 and that looks like a goddamn cartoon. Help me please, I don't want to have to deal with this when I'm relaxing.
