thanks badspot. and master CE, you are mean. go away and burn in heck.

Justin, explain how exactly I am mean. I'm not saying I'm not, I'm asking, I explain what I said in the paragraphs below. I still don't want Blockland to become a follower, I want it to lead.

I said brick Welding Tool would be possible with the engine code doing bricks without a file and sending that info to clients through a callback you could put in, Badspot. Isn't that possible at all? I don't always say things are impossible :/

I said the loading images thing wasn't possible because you don't want to wait for the images to download, not that it seriously isn't possible.

I said the phyics for the FX bricks wouldn't work, I never said you couldn't do static, as you suggested.

I said the models and build loader wasn't possible unless you'd settle with a text description, you'd need to download the images of the builds.

I said hosting off others would lag, you'd need to make sure the servers they are based off of are stable.

Stop suggesting Blockland be a follower, Blockland is a leader, people should copy off it!

that's being mean.

This is the intrawebz, it's filled with mean anonymous ass holes and spam bots.
Also, I've seen much meaner than that, than again, I don't get offended that easily over the iternet.

No, I was telling you the main reason why these wouldn't be put in Blockland, although Badspot thinks otherwise :/

Some ideas:

make something where people can make models and builds, and save them onto this thing. then when people in main menu can hook up to the Internet and download builds and models instead of downloading them off the forums.
I was thinking about a feature like this recently myself. It could be like an internal "approved add-ons" downloader. Imagine a screen that displayed a list of recommended add-ons that you could just select then click "install", and it would go download/install the requested add-on for you. Also, maybe a rating system built in so you can easily pick the best mods to try out first, and rate your favorite mods (e.g., give the light saber mod 5 stars/bricks)?

Add-ons would probably have to be hand picked and put into the system manually by moderators, to prevent exploitation and to make sure everything is set up properly for automatic installation. But two good things would come of this:

- Strain on the player-hosted servers would be relieved, as most add-ons would be downloaded off of the official blockland "add-ons" server.
- A certain level of quality would be maintained (No crappy add-ons)

This would be an easy way to keep placing new, high quality content into the game without badspot having to make it and put it into the base install himself.

make it where people can use screenshots of there build, so people will get to see a little of the build instead of having to go see them self and maybe end up wasting there time.
This is a surprisingly cool idea, imo. Maybe the latest "screenshot" the admin takes could be scaled down and turned into a small jpg or something, which will show up as a preview in the lobby when the player hovers his or her cursor over the game in the listing. Some would say this might detract from the "exploration factor" of the game. But I think if you could see a small bit of a really cool build, it would entice you to travel to the server to check more of it out.

Above all though, I think the accessibility of the game should be worked on (blockland really needs something like an interactive demo tutorial)

EDIT: Dammit, Bumpy Road.

When you are tired, numbers seem like other numbers :cookieMonster:

It seems do-able because I could pre-calculate their path when they first explode, but I don't know how expensive that would be.
It wouldn't be too "expensive" with just a few hundred bricks, but when you're blowing up whole builds and junk, the bouncing could start to get spazzy, E.G. source engine, stack a whole load of junk together and knock something over, the collisions between the objects start to spaz out, they'd clip through the world and eachother and there's a noticable drop in framerate.

I'll probably have a thing to auto-download them from the web instead of from people's servers to speed things up.
Y'mean something like what valve do with the older goldSRC (HL1) games? "Content hosted by Valve content server 11" or whatever, that'd be pretty sweet as it'd speed up (down)loadtimes a lot.

It would be neat to have a way for people create their own 5 player server easily using my dedicated game server, but that would require some work to launch and end the servers remotely.
Again valve hit the nail on the head with steam here, I've known people to be able to host no game but one that runs on steam.
