As far as I'm concerned the public's right to social services, infrastructure improvements, funding for the sciences, etc. etc. etc. far outweighs the top bracket's "right" to buy a solid gold jetski. Since when was that a right, anyway?

Pursuit of happiness. Or basically property.

Right, and the things I just outlined don't constitute the pursuit of happiness? Unfortunately some people have to sacrifice for society to work and the people who should do that are the people who have way too much.

If a society needs people to sacrifice personal property for it to work, it's not a very good society.

You're living in one.

Well we could have society work like you'd like it but it'd be a stuffty place where the unlucky died on the street and where none of the public services you're used to existed. No, a society where wealth is shared is the only humane society.

And?

Society is corrupt and major changes need to be made. Mainly changes that support the needs of all people and not just the ones who are lucky enough to be born into a rich family.

You don't need to be lucky to be rich.

You don't need to be lucky to be rich.

Yes you can work your way to the top. But it is your duty once you reach that point to give back to society.

Alright I'm going to forego being centrist and just say it. Nobody deserves a loving multimillion dollar income no matter what they've done. Maybe if you've cured cancer forever you can have your gold airplane but nobody else. It's been consistently shown that societies where the rich and the poor are more equal are MORE HAPPY.

give back
As if you were given anything in the first place.

The only worthwhile public service I can think of is free college. And so maybe a grateful person could donate if they felt like it.

Freedom > Happiness

Ahem.

Free water (it's free in canada I don't know about the us), some kind of food for the poor, affordable housing development, science funding, health care, pensions, education and that's just a few off the top of my head.

Freedom > Happiness

Bullstuff. As far as I'm concerned you can do whatever you want as long as it doesn't harm other people. Not giving back to society HARMS PEOPLE DIRECTLY.

Taking money from people for society HARMS PEOPLE DIRECTLY. Maybe it's not as big of a deal, but it does.
