THE BEST WEAPON CHOICE?

Bow & Arrow - I like to sneak around and kill from afar!
Melee - Stealth and Mage characters are just wimps. Real men use swords!
Magic - Both Sword and Bow are rendered useless against my spells!

I think it's going to be harder to play a battle mage because you have to equip the spells to use them, so you are forced to use a single, one handed weapon.

Huh? I don't see how that would necessarily make it harder, or i just dont understand. But in general I do think it will be tougher yeah

I don't even use two handed swords on my warrior :o

I have the same problem in Oblivion, aobut holding shields and torches.
I plan to get a Sigil stone that offers a light effect, and enchant an amulet to act as my torch. Then I can use a longsword and shield.
Nice.

So i'm downloading daggerfall and maybe arena, because they're freeware now
any tips?

In Oblivion I have an amulet that casts starlight on self.
No torches :D

Have you ever noticed since Morrowind, Bethesda just keeps reusing the same theme song for the Elder Scrolls? :U

Morrowind
Oblivion
Skyrim

I mean, wonderful and creative theme. But still.

At least they change it up every time, though.

So oblivion is still fun, have a couple questions though:

Does the game expect you to play a while before going into the first gate to oblivion? I went into it, I'm only level 2 btw, and was able to kill all the fire casting goblin creatures and made it into a tower. I go up the stairs a bit only to find a giant goblin, with armor and a mace, casting lightning bolts at me and I'm dead in like 20 seconds. I need to turn the gate off before moving on in the storyline but it seems impossible in my current state. Any advice?

Also, how do you learn new spells? I want to learn more than just flare and healing. Also, as you level up, do spells become more powerful? Or do you need to learn new spells that do relatively the same thing?

I have this Chameleon scroll but dont know what to do with it. Is it a one-time use? Do I use it to learn it as a spell?

1: No. The Oblivion gates level up with you. Ive beaten the game with a level 1 character, so thats not the issue. If you're having issues killing the deadra up top, I would suggest turning down your game difficulty. That may sound cheesy, but it helps on your first play through :)

2: Go to the mages guild. There are a few people in each building that will teach you new spells. In order to buy them, however; you need to go down to where "Barter" is, and then select the magic button.

Alternatively, once you receive all your mages guild recommendations, you can go into the Arcane University and create your own spells :)

3: All scrolls are a one time use.

Great info, thank you. How do I find the mages guild? Is there one in every city?

I chose to be a nightblade. Anyone know if that's a good class? I guess it is a little late, but still. I thought about battlemage as well, but ended up with nightblade.

Its too hard to explain where they are, so just talk to a guard in a city (NOT Imperial City!) and ask him.

Im not sure of the Nightblade class. But on your next run through, i would suggest creating your own class.

Oh okay. How do I ask a guard? My only options (I'm in Bruma currently) are Bruma, Rumors, and Persuade.
Why not Imperial city? Are the guards there mean?

Also, would someone mind explaining Persuasion a little bit more to me? I get how to do it and can raise the number up, but what exactly is it for? What are the benefits of persuading people?

There is no Mage's Guild in the Imperial City, only the University.

Gotcha. Thanks.

I would just google the brumas mages guild.

As for speech, sometimes you need to talk to someone for a quest, but they don't trust you enough to tell you. So basically all persuading is is making people trust you.

I just bribe them :)
