THE BEST WEAPON CHOICE?

Bow & Arrow - I like to sneak around and kill from afar!
Melee - Stealth and Mage characters are just wimps. Real men use swords!
Magic - Both Sword and Bow are rendered useless against my spells!

What kind of enchantments are available? Do you unlock more as you level that skill up?

Also I feel like I'm in a dilemma, as I've never played any Elder Scrolls, I've watched and researched a ton about Skyrim, and can't wait until it comes out. I'm gonna pre-order it as soon as I get home from vacation. In the meantime, I've considered getting Oblivion to play, but now that I've seen Skyrim and all the stuff it has like graphics-wise, dragons + shouts, dual-wielding anything one-handed basically, and all this stuff about better AI, etc.. That Oblivion won't fulfill my hopes/expectations. What do you all think? Should I just wait for Skyrim? Or should I buy Oblivion?

just get oblivion and mod it a little. If that steam sale is still going it's super cheap.

Well I dont think I can mod it, due to me having to buy it on 360. I'm on a Mac and a virtual machine isn't suited to run games.

Get Oblivion RIGHT NOW.
And see this page for magical effects.

oh, how unfortunate that you have a mac

Huh, most spells can be turned into enchantments? Cool. Does it explain everything in-game as you play?

Please, don't start any of that up. I'm perfectly content with my Mac and there is no need to argue it.

Some enchantments are only for some items. For example, you can only make a weapon with a "Drain Health" effect when it hits an enemy, and you can only make an article of clothing that turns you partially invisible. That's only an example though.

If by an explanation you mean "Drain Health 5pts on Strike" then yes, they give explanations.

By explanation I meant do they explain stuff like soul gems within the game? And other processes that require specific requirements, but I guess also specific things like you can only use an invisibility enchantment on clothing is useful as well.

Anyone know how much the console game costs?

I merely meant that it means you can't play games that aren't compatible which is unfortunate.

most of them are about 30 USD

Gotcha, sorry to misunderstand. It is unfortunate that compatibility sucks.

Thanks for the info, I might as well buy it. I'm going to try to shift my pre-order of MW3 to Skyrim as I don't even care about MW3. And use in-store credit to buy oblivion.

Good choice!
Oblivion will definitely keep you entertained for a few months.

I'll need it so I don't go crazy waiting for Skyrim ;)
Besides modding and apparently graphics, is the console version the same?

Got a $25 GameStop gift card. I don't know if it's the same one I used to buy Dragon Age that now has $3.75 on it, but if it's a new one I'll use it to buy Oblivion for PC.

Yes.
I prefer the console, actually.
Easier controls.

Great. Are there things in oblivion like in the Skyrim demo where you can find just like some trolls herding mammoths? Or similar things just like other non-hostile creatures doing civilized or sophisticated things like that?
