I came.

Basically give computer graphics unlimited power.

Already a topic 'bout this, somewhere..

Wow, 4 topics about this already!

I actually dont think its  a big deal.

The graphics look fine as they are.

Isn't this gonna take a stuffload of 3TB hard drives to run or something? Notch wrote about how this is a scam.

3TB for a high quality game?
You're joking right?
At most like 100gb, and even thats a lot.

Yeah naw, it would take 170,000 3TB harddrives to run these graphics in a game lol

Voxels take up huge amounts of space, alot more than polygons. Yeah, I know, 3TB may sound unbelievable but that's how much it will take to run a game.

Additionally, you'll need a stuffton of RAM just to run it as well.

This is going to lead to the death of console gaming isn't it?

Nope because it won't be used in games unless you have 170,000 3TB hard drives

Notch's post assumes they are using voxel point clouds. They could be, since they have yet to release any information as to how they are doing what they are doing, but they also could be doing something completely different. Notch also fails to mention that you can compress point cloud data.

Regardless of whether or not the video shows actual progress on a potentially revolutionary change in graphics technology, the fact people are working on it is great. We need a breakthrough in either how we process graphics or in how we design video cards, because we can only make chips so small.

Yes, I would love to see this in games

I'm afraid that processor speed is going to plateau sometime in my lifetime.
