Author Topic: Increase Steam Download Speeds  (Read 2017 times)

So im currently downloading a game and was quite upset that I was maxing out at 500Kb/s
A few google searches later, I found a way to increase my download speed.
As of now im running at about 1.2Mb/s.
Please note that the following steps are done on Mac, but the steps are the same for Windows.

Step One(Mac): Open up your Steam preferences, this is done by by clicking on Steam on the top left, and then clicking Preferences.
Step One(Windows): Open up your Steam preferences, this is done by going to File>Preferences.

Step Two: Go to the "Downloads + Cloud" tab.

Step Three: In the Downloads tab you will see two pull down thingys, set them like this, but change your download region to the city nearest to you.

What this does: Changing your Internet Connection to Cable/Fiber > 10M raises the download cap, and Changing your Download Region just makes the place your downloading it from closer to you.

Hope I helped, if I didnt, im sorry.

Not for me. It was set in Huston :I

I'd be happy with 500kb/s, I usually get 120kb/s. :C

I just changed it to cable. It was at the 256kb/s one.

Next thing I download will be From Dust in 2 weeks.

Why dont you set it to the 10M one?

If you're european set it to Ukraine and ur getting loving high speeds lol

I am in Arizona right now, so I set it to Phoenix and I have Cable so I set it to that, I'll download something tonight/tomorrow and see how this helped.

I allready had it at my closest location :C

You're kidding me, right?
I DIDNT KNOW INTERNET COULD GO THAT LOW!
It would take like 4 days to install most games D:

Using a high download speed makes my internet crash when I run TF2. :[

Mine was set in Beijing, China for some odd reason.
