Author Topic: Why Don't They Let You Play Games Directly Off the Disc? (PC)  (Read 1489 times)

I don't get why you can't just load it off the disk.  Why not?  Consoles can do it, so why not PC?

Of course the saves won't be recorded onto the disk (because that simply won't work) but will be saved onto the hard drive as normal.

Discuss.

I was literally thinking about this about 10 minutes ago, I too wish to know why.

i assume it's something having to do with memory on the disk

Dammit, I google'd your question and it took me to this thread. =c

I actually didn't know they didn't.
Been a long time since I bought a game with a disk. :P

I love gaming off a disc. Very traditional and comfortable for me.

Probably to discourage pirating or something.

Sure is bing commercial in here.

Wait, are you referring to like, not even installing the game and just reading it and playing it straight from the disk? If so, then I would imagine that it's because some people don't have exactly the best CD-DVD drives, and therefore it will run slower reading from the disk, whereas they could access all the data saved on the hard drive if it was installed.

My CD/DVD drive is stuff, but I too wonder this.
